It seems like everywhere you look someone is on their phone. A group of friends get together and every one of them is texting…posting to their Facebook or Tweeting no doubt. People have online gatherings playing games and chatting, never leaving their home or having any physical interaction with others. People are having intimate relationships online without ever meeting.
Technology is changing behaviors and how we live in this world. We look up our friends on Facebook to stay connected, track our kids location/text/posts/conversations with applications, date online and get married before you even meet the person face to face! And who knew, what you blogged about could land you that new job or those Facebook pictures could get you fired.
It has created a host of new challenges. Children are more uncomfortable in social settings because they are not sure how to socialize in the real world. Cyber bullying, sexting, and the digital footprint you leave behind are issues we never had to deal with in the past. Addictions to the Internet, online gaming, online gambling, online thieves, online predators, etc. are on the rise. In fact, there are now programs and camps to send your children to so they can learn to socialize and fight their online addictions. A new culture is growing around us and shifting how we live our lives.
There is no slow down of these problems in sight. New problems will come quicker than ever before with the rate of technology and speed in which things can take over our lives. It took decades for the PC and Internet to catch on, yet months for Facebook to take off and hours for people like Charlie Sheen to build up his followers and get his message out.
New applications for the 72.5 million US Smart Phone owners come out everyday making devices and the Internet easier to use. The Tablet has changed our capabilities to be mobile and do so much more on a smaller device.
